You might remember the beautiful Quy Mill Hotel & Spa from my glowing review of the afternoon tea I had there a few months back. Well after trying the food I couldn’t resist staying longer to check out the hotel, spa, and surrounding grounds too. Quy Mill Hotel & Spa is fantastically situated off the A14 just 15 minutes away from Cambridge city center, so it’s a great option if you want a break with a country feel while still being within easy reach of a stunning historical city to explore. There is also the stunning Anglesey Abbey within walking distance and Newmarket racecourse is close by so there’s plenty to see and do in the area.

Starting with the rooms, there are 4 room types at Quy Mill Hotel & Spa; classic rooms which are situated in the hotel itself, executive rooms and superior rooms which are both situated in the converted barns in the courtyard and finally for those really looking for a treat there are the four-poster rooms. I stayed in an executive room which was spacious, quiet, and incredibly comfortable. The bed was huge and one of the best I’ve slept in. I can honestly say when I’d closed the blackout curtains and settled down in the plush pillows after watching a film on the Freeview TV I had one of the best nights sleep I’ve had in years! The room comes with an ensuite with a bath which I love when I’m taking a trip away as a bath is always such a great way to relax. There’s free wifi in the rooms which I took full advantage of when working on some writing in the comfortable desk area while I sipped tea from the hot drink facilities. I always feel that I work better when I am away from the distractions of home life, don’t you agree?

If you choose to upgrade to a superior room you get all this plus an even larger room, a private patio, and a spa bath. The four-poster rooms not only come with the opulent four-poster bed but upgraded drinks machines you can use in your spa bath and with views over the landscaped garden. Every room in the hotel comes with 24-hour reception and porter service, room service meals, dry cleaning services free parking, and lots more. For those dog lovers amongst us (myself certainly included), the hotel even lets dogs stay in their accommodation and there’s plenty of space for them to explore in the grounds.

The hotel and grounds itself has plenty to offer on-site also. Food wise you can’t go wrong as the kitchen offers AA Roset winning fair and there are plenty of options to choose from. There is The Garden Restaurant and Terrace where I had the delicious afternoon tea and which offers views over the garden and also where breakfast is served. I went for a fabulous breakfast of chicken and waffles which I highly recommend but the breakfast menu here has everything from a British fry up, to a continental buffet, to more contemporary American offerings. Then there is The Waterwheel for more formal dining situated in the heart of Quy Mill Hotel & Spa and The Celtic Bar for a relaxing and cozy drink and bar foo. Why not hit up the outdoor snack bar for a more relaxed late-night meal if that more suits your mood? I had dinner here in the evening of my visit and the service and food were both impeccable.

But that’s now all, there are jogging trails, a riverside nature walk, and a landscaped garden to explore but the real attraction here is the spa facilities! The spa has plenty of treatments available at additional costs such as massages, facial treatments, and Serail Mud treatments if you want to treat yourself but there’s plenty already included in the cost of your stay. The gym is available for all guests but I just couldn’t stay away from the swimming pool, saunas, steam room and hot tub which really allowed me to shut off and relax. I went both days of my stay and it was a real highlight! The hotel even does packages that include a stay, meals, and spa treatments which I may have to come back to experience soon.
The Quy Mill Hotel & Spa is a great choice for anyone looking for a place to unwind, whether it’s a solo trip, a romantic getaway, or a break with friends.
