One of the first things I found when researching for a recent trip to Bucharest, Romania were tons of Tiktoks raving about the Therme Bucharest spa and just how great it is. I’m not normally a spa person (I’d been to one once over 10 years ago) but there was something about this one that meant I just had to add it to my trip itinerary and let me tell you; I’m glad I did! Having spent a pleasant afternoon and evening there I knew I just had to get back and tell you all how it was and answer the questions people had about this excellent and high-tech spa. So here is everything you need to know about Therme Bucharest spa:
What is there to do at Therme Bucharest spa?
Starting off with the big question, just what is there to see and do at this spa and just why are people raving about it? Well in short, what isn’t there to do! This spa is a high-tech facility where throughout your visit you use an electronic wristband to access the different areas and pay for any extras including food, but so much is included in the base price!
If you are looking for a relaxing spa trip there are so many wellness activities for you to hunt out; 10 different saunas each with their own benefits (and so much more than your average spa sauna choice), and one even has a cinema inside! A salt library (which is exactly as it sounds), indoor mineral pools (each based around different minerals so you can choose the ones which will most benefit you), inferred light beds and more.
If you are looking to chill there is also a beautiful park to wander through with specially chosen flowers and minerals to aid relaxation, an outdoor beach with a variety of different sun beds so you can really lose yourself and forget you are so close to a capital city, an outdoor thermal pool which you can swim to directly to from the indoor pool, you can even take a cocktail from the swim-up bar with you to enjoy while you take advantage of the aqua massages. There are hydromassage beds (which come with a small extra fee but trust me they are so worth it, I could have stayed there for hours!), a Fung Shui park to explore, various lounges if you want to relax and read a book or why not try one of the relaxation areas so you can read from your own hammock. There are also many outdoor pools around the spa and terraces if you want to take in the sunlight.
If you are looking to wake yourself up after all that relaxation there are also some thrilling activities too, there’s a waterpark area built onto the spa so you can get your heart racing! There are 10 high-tech water slides, a lot of which aren’t for the faint-hearted, and a wave pool and water playground. It’s the least relaxing area of the spa but some would argue it’s the most fun! It’s worth noting that while this is in the family area the other areas are only for those 16+ so it’s easy to relax without children running around.
If that isn’t enough there is also an activity schedule running every day which covers everything from rituals to scrubs, to loads of different types of massages, to skincare, aqua gyms and so much more.
How much is Therme Bucharest?
The price depends on how long you wish to visit and which areas (the spa is split into 3 different sections, the family area and two which are adults only). The price starts from under £10 for an adult for a 3-hour visit to just under £25 for a full day with access to all three areas.
What are the food options like at Therme Bucharest?
Honestly, some of the best you will find at a spa for variety! We ate at the Humboldt Restaurant during our trip and it had a huge variety of dishes based around 5 different continents of the world! There really is something for everyone there. However, if you want more there is a family restaurant, a Thai restaurant and a snack bar as well as lots of different bars to visit.
How do you get to Therme Bucharest?
Assuming you are travelling from Bucharest there are only 2 ways to get to Therme Bucharest; by bus or by car. We chose the car option for ease and from central Bucharest is around 40 minutes away, you can use Bolt to Uber.
When is Therme Bucharest open?
It is open 9 am-11 pm on weekends and 10 am-11 pm on weekdays.
What shall I bring?
There are a few things you have to bring with you on a visit, as well as the expected swimsuit you are expected to bring your own flip-flops and towel which must be worn when moving between areas. If you are travelling light like us and don’t have these things with you, then you can hire them from the spa for a nominal charge. As the spa is between the city and the airport so they can even store your luggage if you are on the way there also. What is the vibe like?
There is no snobbery or judgement at this spa, it’s seriously chilled. Whether you are there for a full day of relaxation or just to let your children run wild at the waterslides, there’s something for everyone with no judgments cast. Their use of the electronic wristband adds to this air of relaxation with no money exchanged till you check out and pay your bill at the end. The only thing to note is that this is a big spa and as such that can come with a lot of people. While it is big enough to accommodate, don’t necessarily expect an intimate experience.
Overall I really enjoyed my time at Therme Bucharest spa and can’t recommend it enough, especially for the affordable price. I’m not really a spa person and found myself wishing I could stay longer.
